Planting, Weed Management, and Irrigation in an Integrated System

In this class farmer educators Jim Leap and Darryl Wong of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) at the UCSC Farm will follow-up on the May 19 Tillage Tools and Techniques workshop to cover the subsequent steps of planting, weed management and irrigation.
Jim and Darryl will discuss and offer hands-on experience on how to adjust and calibrate different seeders (Plant Jr., Earthway, John Deere, Stanhay, Jang/Clean Seeder). They will discuss how to set up a basic three bar cultivator and see it in action as well as demonstrate some options for mechanical bed-top cultivation. Lastly, they will cover irrigation scheduling for both crop growth and cultivation as well as discuss how to use CIMIS Et (evapotranspiration) values to more precisely apply water.
