In this class farmer educators Jim Leap and Darryl Wong of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) at the UCSC Farm will follow-up on the May 19 Tillage Tools and Techniques workshop to cover the subsequent steps of planting, weed management and irrigation.

Jim and Darryl will discuss and offer hands-on experience on how to adjust and calibrate different seeders (Plant Jr., Earthway, John Deere, Stanhay, Jang/Clean Seeder). They will discuss how to set up a basic three bar cultivator and see it in action as well as demonstrate some options for mechanical bed-top cultivation. Lastly, they will cover irrigation scheduling for both crop growth and cultivation as well as discuss how to use CIMIS Et (evapotranspiration) values to more precisely apply water.
